This week has really felt like we are finally out of the dreary winter months. As usual, the news cycle bemoans the transportation holdups that clog our airports, motorways, and rail network as families try to get away for a well-deserved break. You can hear people grunting as they wrestle with the lawnmower for the first cut, see them checking the bulbs on their outdoor electrics and hear them chat about whether it really is warm enough for a BBQ on the Bank Holiday weekend.
For me, the Easter bank holiday always makes me reassess the state of the garden. I like to think about the improvements that I want to make so that I can get the most out of the garden this year. Really small improvements can make such a difference to your enjoyment of your outdoor space. Here are some of my top three recommendations if you are looking to get the most out of your outdoor electrics and garden space this summer.
1. BBQ Sockets
Plenty of us uses disposable BBQs or gas canister BBQs. I know I like the smoky taste of the flames on my burgers. But with the cost of gas increasing this year, many of us are opting to switch to the convenience of outdoor electrics and electric-powered BBQs. Having an outdoor electrical socket installed to ensure you have a dedicated cooking spot in your garden away from the seating area is a great way to ensure you always have access to this most beloved of British past-times.
Having an outside socket installed is a relatively quick and cost-effective solution to running unsightly extension cables over your garden and does not always involve digging trenches in the garden to lay cable. It reduces trip hazards and helps reduce the amount of time it takes to set up and put away, meaning you can spontaneously transform your outdoor space into an entertaining space.
2. Fairy Lights
Make a feature out of your outdoor sitting space. I love using lighting to demarcate a seating space, draping fairy lights over the spot where the dining table or seating area is located. It helps to create a wonderful, magical place to host family and friends in the evening, effectively extending your living space.
Rather than put up with the hassle of running an extension cable through a kitchen window for your lights though, have an outdoor socket installed. It’s convenient, and you can even install a timer to ensure that you do not accidentally leave the lights on, wasting electricity. Or you can go one step further and have a smart outdoor socket installed.
3. Outdoor Lighting
There are plenty of solar-powered and battery-operated solutions on the market when it comes to creating a bit of atmosphere in your garden. Consider where you can add light in order to make evenings sitting out on the patio a more pleasurable experience.
Alternatively, you can have lighting wired into your home’s electrical circuits. This allows you to ensure that outdoor lights will always have power if you do not get much power generated via solar alone. It also means you do not have to keep changing or charging batteries. Like the sockets mentioned above, the lights can be on timers or smart sockets; this helps to reduce electricity waste.
Think forward to summer
Now is the best time to plan for the changes you want to make in your outdoor electrics and outdoor space. Just one or two changes can transform your space and make it a space that really brings you joy this summertime. Enquire now! Don’t leave it until 2 weeks before you have that family BBQ booked in.
