Ceiling Light Installation Service

Kings Norton

The client contacted me as they wanted to make use of our ceiling light installation service. They wanted their ceiling light fixture moved following a room renovation. The new light fitting they’d chosen was a different shape and much heavier than their previous fixture. So, they also needed help ensuring the fixture’s two decorative chains were fastened securely to the room’s ceiling beams in a way that was capable of holding the weight of the light’s beam. The new light fixture would need to be attached to the ceiling at three places, the two chains that supported the light’s beam, and the central electrical wire.

Consultation process

After visiting the location, I could see that I would need to check the position of the ceiling’s wooden beams to ensure I could fix the heavier ceiling light securely. I informed the client that they would need to pull the carpet up in the room above for me to fit the light. I also had a good look at the light fitting they’d bought, making sure I knew how the fittings supplied with the product were supposed to be used.
Checking the light fixture to find out how the fittings needed to be connected to the beam.

How A Bathe Electrics helped

On the day, I started by pulling up the floorboards in the room above and accessing the light fixture from above. The client had moved the furniture and carpet in the room above, which made the job go quite smoothly and saved time. To safely install the light fixture, I added some extra wood to ensure the new light fixture was securely attached to the beams at the new location. I fixed the chains onto the beam and fed them through holes in the plasterboard through to the room below.
Looking through the floorboards from above to check where the ceiling beams are and where best to fit the chains.
Downstairs once again, I ensured the house’s electrical circuit was turned off and removed the old light fixture. Feeding the wires through the cavity between the ceiling and floorboards, I made a new hole in the ceiling and fed the wire th
Removing the old light fitting.
With the beam hung on the chains, I could attach the electrical fitting to the wires I’d fed through the cavity. After performing safety checks, I could turn the house’s electrical circuit back on and check the light fitting worked.

The clients’ review

The clients were really happy with the result and left a review on Google:
“Adam was professional, very friendly and explained everything that we needed to do to prepare the house ready for him to fit our light. He was lovely with our kids, who were being home schooled at the time and was very patient with them even though they had to be in the house (this was during a Covid Lockdown). We felt very safe, as Adam wore PPE. Adam was so helpful, as he let us know when he was planning on turning the electricity off, so we could plan when the children could use their devices for their learning. The new light has changed the way we use our dining room. We would highly recommend A Bathe Electrics to anyone. Especially, if you want a tradesman who communicates really clearly.” Hannah Millist, client, taken from Google Business Pages with client’s permission.
